When asked about Diablo 4 and its current direction and its similarity to the original D3 concept, Brevik was quite coy: It was scrapped because most of BlizNo left. MMO in terms of many people playing at once, not like WoW. We used a lot of the game-structure concepts for Marvel Heroes. I would have been very different from any Diablo.
īrevik also talked about the Blizzard North version of Diablo 3: There was only one class (that I can remember). We were also working on our version of Diablo 3 at the time, plus another unannounced project. It was before the 1.10 patch (in terms of timeline). This is one of the reasons it was never made.
I designed it about 6-12 months before I left.
I had a multi-page design doc going over new classes, new areas, new mechanics and story concepts. It's particularly interesting to get some new information about D2 these days, as we're very likely to hear something about the game's remaster soon.īrevik had already written a design doc for it, with a new class, a cleric type, but it never went beyond that as Blizzard North were already working on their version of Diablo 3 ( which we recently got a look at) and another unannounced project, and that part of the company was dissolved around 6 months after that. Diablo 2 was supposed to get a second expansion after Lord of Destruction, and in the past few days one of its creators, David Brevik, has been talking about it.
